Scott Barrow, Founder & Artistic Director received his BA from the University of Richmond (Spanish and Theatre with an Education Concentration) and later got his MFA in Acting from Brandeis University focusing on Fight Direction. Additionally, Scott trained with Shakespeare and Company of Lenox, MA working in their much acclaimed education department as an, actor, technical director, and classroom teacher.

 

In addition to STAGES, Scott has developed residency programs for lower, middle and high school students with Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Shakespeare Society of New York, the Times Square Group, East Side Montessori (NYC), and the Wang Center; creating arts opportunities for under-served and at risk youth. His unique approach to modernizing classical material both in performance and in the classroom is at the core of Stages' Educational programming. Scott's classroom success and approach stem from avery active place in the American theatre both as anactor and a fight director.

 

On Broadway, Off Broadway, and regionally, he has collaborated on new works with such luminaries as Moises Kaufman, Michael Weller, Paul Rudnick, Mark Harelick, Stephen Belber, Eve Ensler, Adam Rapp, and Robert Brustein, while playing major roles at such theatres as the New York Theatre Workshop, Tectonic Theatre Project, Arena Stage, Hartford Stage, The Wilma Theater, Commonwealth Shakespeare, The Arden Theatre, Arkansas Repertory, The Mint, Nevada Shakespeare in the Park, DC's Studio Theatre, New Repertory, The Geva, The Olney, The Vineyard Playhouse, Trinity Rep, Cincinnati Playhouse, and New Jersey Shakespeare among others.

 

Currently, Scott's theatrical introduction to Shakespeare for students reluctant to read his plays (Shakespeare in ACTion) is making its 8th tour and another play Outcasts; The Lepers of Penikese Island is in development.
